Our pay has huge flux to it. From our worst month last year, to our best month we had about an $8000 variance. This means, when it's good, IT'S GOOD; but when it's bad, we are really struggling.
It is imperative, in the summer to put money away into savings for the fall. I'm have a lot of trouble doing this. A lot.
Target seems to be my down fall. With a little of this and a little of that (oh, look that skort for Emma is only $5.00) I seem to fritter away our money. Especially this month.
Next month I'm going to either 1) make a collection of my Target receipts and go through and itemize them one by one or 2) I'm going to leave only what I need in my account to pay my bills and cash out the rest to pay for groceries, etc.

Our income varies from month to month as well. It has our entire married life. I am used to it. But I am HORRIBLE at budgeting.
My best secret to saving money is this: Don't look at the ads and don't go to the store (the grocery store is the exception to this rule). It's amazing how long we can get by without whatever it was I needed from Walmart. Not to mention to savings in gas money!
I just told my dh we need to see a financial advisor/planner. Our income varies a little, but I don't think it is enough to fret over. The biggest problem we have is that we both grew up EXTREMELY poor... poor enough, that we both were educated because of it, to prevent the same situation from our own little family.
Our history has given us no means of how to manage money. The sucky thing is, is that our monthly expenses eat up about 60-70% of our net income. Somehow, though, the rest of our 'cushion' disappears and I simply can't account for it- other than we pay off the cc's each month and we often are in our overdraft protection (this is because I get paid once a month and we never know when my income will be deposited). We definitely need HELP.
